I have been trying and reviewing makeup wipes by several Korean brands. Some I enjoyed using some not so much. I like the one in this post more than the one I reviewed a week ago- Tony Moly Smokey cleansing tissue. Like I mentioned in all my reviews of makeup removal products, I love to wear makeup, but removing makeup is not as fun. The makeup removing process is messy, it takes a while to get all the gunk off and above of all, most makeup removers leave some residue behind, especially waterproof eye makeup is hard to remove even with high-end makeup removers. But, makeup removing wipes do make the process a little easier and considerably mess-free, even if they don’t leave face squeaky clean.
What it is
The freshener tissue refreshes pores conveniently with just one piece.
How to apply
Use after washing the face, at the toner step. Take out one tissue and gently wipe the face in the direction of skin texture.
My Experience with Etude House Wonder Pore Freshner Tissue:
These wipes by Etude House are not soaking wet in the product, but are reasonably saturated with the product; one wipe is sufficient to clean the face and neck are and even remove some product from lids and water line (I would not recommend using it in water line unless someone has tolerance for alcohol). After I wipe my face clean with these wipes as best as I can. I soak and edge in miceller water and wipe my eye makeup clean. These wipes smell strongly of rubbing alcohol and rightly so because, alcohol is the second ingredient in the product. While using it, I felt like I was rubbing my face with a tissue soaked in rubbing alcohol because of the smell, but fortunately it did not sting or bruise my skin the way rubbing alcohol does. It also did not make my skin excessively dry the way alcohol does to skin.
I have tried makeup removing wipes by drugstore brands and Korean brands and they all have their pros and cons. But, I like the ones by MAC the most, but obviously they are not favorable from the price point of view, so I don’t mind using cheaper alternative which might not perform just as well but still good enough for my everyday needs. I use at least two wipes a day and hence it is a bit expensive to use higher end wipes on every day basis.
Wipes come in a packet with a flap to cover the opening that dispense the wipes. The wipes are textured and have mild exfoliating properties. It removes the base makeup really well and I remove my eye makeup with miceller water or a cleansing balm. I use all my wipes as wash cloth as well. I apply some face wash on the wipe and scrub my face and neck clean.
Apart from water and alcohol, these wipes also contain some natural essential extract (thankfully Etude House American website discloses entire ingredient list in English) and perhaps, because of these natural extracts these wipes are not drying despite of high alcohol content. The texture of these wipes makes them mildly abrasive and are perfect for sensitive skin as well.
Pros of Etude House Wonder Pore Freshner Tissue:
- Affordable makeup removing wipes and are good at removing makeup.
- Easily removes base makeup. One wipe is sufficient for face and neck but does not remove the eye makeup efficiently.
- Each wipe is thoroughly saturated with product.
- The wipes are textured and are mildly abrasive that is why it claims to clean pores.
- Packaging is hygienic, dispenses product easily and is travel-friendly.
- Does not dry out skin and contains some beneficial ingredients as well.
Cons of Etude House Wonder Pore Freshner Tissue:
- Has a strong rubbing alcohol smell. Alcohol is the second highest ingredient in these wipes and those who find it extremely drying should avoid it
- Does not remove eye makeup easily and some other product has to be used for that purpose – I prefer to use a cleansing balm for this purpose
IMBB Rating: 3/5
Do I Recommend Etude House Wonder Pore Freshner Tissue?
These wipes by Etude House are mediocre in performance. I like their texture, they are not drying and removes base makeup well, but there is nothing unique about them and I do not see myself repurchasing them.
