Making a debut at the 2018 Couture Fashion Week New York is Malaysia’s very own The Mod House.
The fashion label presented a collection of Asian-inspired designs on the runway that wowed guests. Classic looks incorporated both the qipao and kua, embellished with beautiful songket fabric.
Peranakan culture motifs were also used to give the designs an extra special Malaysian touch. Some of the more contemporary creations featured elegant ruffles, chic cuts and pretty colours. There were also regal gowns that came with exquisite detailing – perfect for high society galas.
The Mod House was founded in 2006 by designer KL Ho, who previously worked as an accountant. He believes that everyone deserves to project the best image in their lives, as evident in the clothes he creates.
Keen to try his hand in producing his own designs, Ho eventually set up a production team producing samples for various brands and local designers.
Not letting his lack of formal training deter him, Ho would sit day and night with his seamsters and seamstresses to develop the best possible cut and designs.
Aside from couture, Ho also offers a range of ready-to-wear. He also specialises in designing for possibly the most important day in a woman’s life – the wedding gown for her wedding day.
Recognising the gap in the market for well-designed working wear, his label now strives to present trendy and stylish designs with a classic tailored fit.
