The Singapore Food Festival returns for its 26th year

Now  in its 26th year, the annual Singapore Food Festival (SFF) is a highly-anticipated event in the tiny little city state’s food calendar.

This year’s edition will be held from 12 to 28 July and will feature 20 event partners showcasing a diverse range of quintessentially local fare.

The festival kicks off with SFF’s signature event, Streat, which will feature traditional food, hawker grub as well as modern interpretations of classics. Highlights include beef rendang from the 50-year-old Sabar Menanti Restaurant as well as Restaurant Ibid’s beef curry bowl, created by MasterChef Asia winner Woo Wai Leong.

Various partners will also be offering a wide range of creative fare. Tasty treats to look out for include a one-of-a-kind chilli crab ramen, crafted by ramen giants Ippudo and popular local seafood restaurant No Signboard Seafood and available at the Ippudo outlets in Mandarin Gallery and Marina Bay Sands.

One-Michelin starred Peranakan restaurant Candlenut, helmed by chef Malcolm Lee will be also be participating in SFF, in collaboration with Park Bench Deli to create a unique buah keluak burger, which will be served at the restaurant from 1 to 31 July.

Michelin-starred restaurant Candlenut will be producing the buah keluak burger in tandem with Singapore Food Festival.

The buah keluak is often called the “truffle of the East” and is famed for its earthy, opulent quality. It also contains mild cyanide and is poisonous if not treated properly (a tedious process that involves burying it in ash for a few months). The nut is typically used in Peranakan fare like ayam buah keluak, so it will certainly be interesting to see it reconfigured within the confines of a burger.

Other highlights of this year’s SFF include the Singapore Tea Festival 2019, Kuah Appreciation Day and The Great Indian Food Fest. For more information, check out http://www.visitsingapore.com
