H&M has joined forces with the Chinese designer Angel Chen for its latest high-end fashion collaboration.
The Swedish fashion giant will roll out a 45-piece capsule collection designed by the creative this September, WWD reports. The move marks the brand’s debut collaboration with a Chinese creative.
The series draws on Chen’s own portfolio of luxury designs and the concept of Chinese martial arts, spanning ready-to-wear separates that feature culturally symbolic motifs such as bamboo, dragons and cranes.
“When I was designing the capsule, my priority was to reflect Chinese culture and my brand identity in a meaningful way, sell through became secondary,” Chen said.
“I chose some iconic looks from my archive, and gave it an update in colourway, material and details.”
“We hope to arouse more public attention to the Chinese young designers’ creativity and influence within the Chinese as well as international fashion industries,” added Magnus Olsson, country manager of H&M Greater China.

The series will go on sale online and in-store in China and other countries with significant numbers of Chinese shoppers, such as Singapore, Malaysia, the Philippines and Canada.
The move comes months after H&M announced a collaboration with the Italian haute couture designer Giambattista Valli, which is set to launch fully on Nov 7, following the release of a nine-piece series that debuted back in May.

H&M just launched its new fragrance collection consisting of 25 different scents divided into three distinct groups. The collection has been created in collaboration with one of the world’s leading perfume houses, Givaudan, and is a complement to the existing H&M Beauty assortment.
The brand launched the fragrance through a pop up store – dubbed the H&M House of Notes – just outside its store at 1 Utama Shopping Centre in Bandar Utama, Selangor, with immersive installations.
The H&M Beauty fragrance collection features a wide range of different scents with high quality and affordable prices, providing a multitude of opportunities for everyone to find their own special scent. Each of the fragrances was created through a collaboration between the in-house team and the perfumers Olivier Pescheux and Nisrine Grillie from Givaudan – one of the world’s leading perfume houses.
Pescheux is a world-renowned and award-winning perfumer, while Grillie is a young rising star in the fragrance world.
“We focused a lot on high quality ingredients, from the single note fragrances to the contemporary blends and the more nuanced perfumes that really highlight the origin of the key ingredient. It has been an honour to collaborate with H&M and alongside my colleague Nisrine for this exciting fragrance collection,” says Pescheux.
“I had the most inspiring time working with H&M and Olivier for this project. It was always going to be a good challenge given the comprehensive range but in the end, I believe the H&M fragrance collection is a beautiful and versatile symphony of fragrances,” says Grillie.
The H&M EDT fragrance comes in unusual scents like lipstick, petals and vanilla.
The Singles consist of 10 different scents that revolve around a single note, such as vanilla, chocolate or yuzu. The Reveries, in both eau de toilette and body mist, are 10 different blended fragrances that tell a story or convey a certain feeling.
Five different perfumes that are more complex constitutes The Essences. They are made around a key ingredient of the finest quality, such as sandalwood, patchouli or rose and comes in a eau de parfum and roll-on perfume oil in pocket size. The Essences are only available exclusively at the H&M 1 Utama store.
